The Ashes 1st Test Day Highlights:
England’s Joe Root scored an unbeaten 118 runs off 152 balls in the first Ashes Test against Australia. England declared at 393-8, just seven runs short of 400, on the opening day of the match. Root’s century, his first against Australia since 2015, helped England dominate the game early on. However, Australia managed to hold firm and finished the day at 14-0. England tried to bowl at Australia for four overs but failed to get any wickets.
England’s captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum took an unconventional, attacking approach by declaring early. Unfortunately, this move didn’t work out as they hoped, and they were unable to take any wickets before the end of the day. Despite an aggressive start with the bat, England lost key wickets and were in danger of being quickly dismissed, but they managed to recover thanks to Root’s impressive innings.
