In the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia, Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli played an important role in keeping India’s hopes alive by putting together a crucial 71-run partnership on Day 4. India ended the day at 164/3 and require 280 more runs to win.
Rohit Sharma, with assistance from Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara, got India off to a strong start in their improbable 444-run chase. However, both Rohit and Pujara were dismissed in quick succession, but Kohli and Rahane managed to recover the situation. In Australia’s second innings, Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc prevented India from taking all the wickets as Australia declared at 270/8.
For India to win the WTC Final mace, they will need to achieve the highest successful run chase in Test cricket history.
